Hunter Robbins Ready to Make 2007 His Best Year Yet
For someone of such a young age, Hunter Robbins already has a pretty impressive racing resume.  In 2005 at the age of 14 he claimed victory in the 2005 Snowflake 100, part of the famous Snowball Derby Weekend as well as numerous other Pro Late model events throughout the southern states.
Now, as a new season rolls around, Robbins has the chance to set a whole new streak as he sets about to compete in a competitive schedule of both Super Late Model and Pro Late Models at tracks all across the southeastern states.  It’s a schedule that has him racing just about every weekend throughout the summer months.

“It is a busy schedule, but I don’t think that it will be that hard to pull off,” said Robbins.  “I think a lot of the really busy weeks fall during the summer so that should help us out some.  I have it set up at my school where I can get out whenever I need to because of the races.

“As long as I keep my grades up, they will let me go when I need to, and they will count it sort of as a field trip.”

While Robbins knows that school is most important, he also knows what other things that he needs to focus on in order to be race ready come the end of February.

“We still have a lot of work to do getting our cars ready and all, but I think we will be ready for the first race at Birmingham.  It is just going by really fast.  This first race is creeping up on us.  We want to make sure that we have everything ready to go.”

Robbins will be in contention for a number of championships including the Blizzard Series Championship, the Mobile Track Championship and the Viper Series Championship at South Alabama Speedway.  But with all the races that he is running, the most important one won’t come until the end of the year, at the annual Snowball Derby.

“We ran the Snowball last year, but we were just happy to make it last year.  This year we want to win it.  We wanted to run good last year; we just kind of went down there thinking that we may make it or we may not.  We hit on something when we were down there.  We think this year that we will be even better.  That is one reason why we want to run all of the Blizzard races, so that we can try and finish in the top two in points and get that provisional.  It takes a lot of pressure off of you come December because you don’t have to put your focus on trying to qualify; and then if you don’t qualify, you have that provisional and you can just focus on getting the win.”

This first challenge of 2007 won’t be a Blizzard race, however; it will come at Birmingham International Raceway, where he will participate in a double header event of both Pro Late Models and Super Late models as part of the traditional Early Bird event.

“We are heading to Birmingham, and this time we have two cars,” added Robbins.  “We just picked up a brand new Grand American Race Car from Frankie Grill, and that will be our Super Late Model.  And we have our Pro Late Model, which is a port city, and we will run it in select ASA and Pro Late Mode races when we aren’t running the Super Late Model races.

“The Super Late Model is going to be our main focus this year.
I think the Super Late Model is going to be better for me because
of the throttle control and that type of car.  I think it takes a lot more driver to drive a super late model especially at Pensacola where it is a lot of throttle car, but with the pro late model you can just stand in it and drive it.  I think that we should be really good in both all season long.  I am just ready to go racing again.”

Hunters Robbins’ racing season will get underway with a double header of Pro Late Models and Super Late Models on February 24th at Birmingham International Raceway as part of the Early Bird weekend.  The Early Bird event will get underway Sunday, February 25th, at 1 pm.
