Robbins Follows Up Win With Third-Place Finish
After last week’s victory in the Pro Late Model race in the Viper Series at South Alabama Speedway (AL), Robbins decided to keep the momentum going by entering the Pro Late Model race at Birmingham International Raceway on Saturday.
Rain forced the postponement of the night race to Sunday during the day, which hampered Robbin’s attempt at two victories in a row, but the young driver kept his head in the game bringing home a third-place finish.
“The Victory Circle Communications car was pretty good during practice,” said Robbins. “We had the car set up more for night time racing. When it rained out Saturday night and had to race on Sunday, we didn’t compensate enough for the heat. We didn’t tighten up the car and it didn’t have the forward bite we needed. We pitted a couple times and made some adjustments and it did make it better. We got the car the best we could. If it wouldn’t have rained out Saturday night we would have had a better shot for the win.”
Still, Robbins wasn’t disappointed with the third-place finish. It was just what the team needed to continue their good-luck streak.
“Third is still pretty good,” explained Robbins. “It keeps the team rolling and keeps everybody happy. It keeps the momentum going, and we are ready to go back Super Late Model racing.”
The next race for Robbins will come Saturday, August 31st at Five Flags Speedway as part of the Blizzard Series.
