Hunter Robbins Battles Back To 13th-Place Finish At Mobile
After his Blizzard Series win last week at Five Flags Speedway (FL), Hunter Robbins rolled into Mobile International Raceway (FL) looking to capitalize on the momentum. However Robbins felt ‘the next race’ blues as he had to battle through a bad qualifying run and two racing incidents to finish 13th, the last car on the lead lap.
“The car just wasn’t good on cold tires,” said Robbins. “We were pretty fast, but the main thing that hurt me was the cold tires, and there’s not much we could have done differently. Once it got some heat in them it was good, but on cold tires it just wanted to push. When we went out to qualify and they didn’t let us get any heat in the tires with a warm-up lap, so we didn’t qualify well. We had to start in the back. Then in the beginning, the car behind us (Jesse Reid) just ran up into us, and spun us out.

“Our car was really good on long runs and if we had a long green flag run, I was able to pass people. We had a really good race car, but we just kept getting in bad situations. There at the end, I felt like we got brake-checked going into the corner. When you turn right to save it at this place, you lose it. Mader was the one that did that. It was just rough driving, I think. It was crazy out there.”
Robbins was able to drive up to sixth place during the event, however the on track incidents kept putting him to the back, forcing him to race up through the field.
“Mobile is really fast, and it’s not very forgiving. If you make a mistake or if it jumps sideways, you better hang on, because the car’s going to loop around. It’s just so unforgiving.”
With the race at Mobile behind him, Robbins now focuses on his next race.
“We’ll regroup and go to Opp (South Alabama Speedway) and hope to have a good run there. I think we got a good setup for Opp and will have a good showing for our sponsors Maui Jim, X-1R, Bell Helmets, ARP Racing Bodies and Hawaiian Tropics.”
The next race for Robbins will come May 5th at South Alabama Speedway as part of the Viper Series.
