Hunter Robbins Gets First Win of Season in Hometown.
Hunter Robbins got back to victory lane on Saturday at Montgomery Motor Speedway, but it didn’t come easy. Robbins would start the race in the second position and end up winning the race, but that’s half the story.
“Our troubles began before the race. My crew was going over the car after qualifying when we noticed I had run over something during qualifying and cut the left rear,” said Robbins. Hunter would remain in the second position until lap 50 when his left front went down. “The car started to go away from me and I was starting to worry. When the caution came out I told my crew I thought the left front was going down and we had to come check it out.”
Hunter would then restart just outside the top ten and made it back to second behind Augie Grill with just ten laps remaining, “I knew that if I could get to second and had a restart I had a great chance of winning the race.” It would only take Hunter just a few laps to slide past Grill for the win.
“It feels great to get a win at my hometown track in front of all my friends and family here. I really want to thank my guys for battling through the tire troubles and believing in me to come back and get the job done tonight. We all worked really hard the past few weeks on this car and it paid off. We should have had a few more wins this year, but it took this long to get everything to fall into place.”
Robbins will be back on track this weekend at Montgomery Motor Speedway
for the ASA Southeast Tour.
